One thing to avoid as a guest is to wear white, as proper etiquette would call for most wedding dresses to be white. You would never want to risk over-shadowing the bride on her day. The main idea is to always make sure you are dressed appropriately so to honor those being wed. That would include dressing modestly.

A dress for wedding guest is not necessarily required. It would not be wrong to combine a nice skirt, or even slacks, with a crisp blouse and maybe a suit coat, especially if it’s going to be a casual, late afternoon affair. If it is scheduled to be outside, carrying a shawl just in case, might be a good idea.
